The 2025 Six Nations tournament gets underway this weekend. Scotland begin their campaign with a home match against Italy. The Scots will be confident of getting off to a winning start. Read our match prediction to find out more.
Last year saw Scotland finish fourth in the table, that was only a place and a point above Italy. The Scots won two of their five games, losing the other three. Wins came at Wales and at home to England but they lost 31-29 away to Italy. It could have been a much different campaign for them but for that narrow loss to the Italians and a controversial home defeat by France and will hope to do better this year.
Italy were delighted with their two wins last year with victories over Wales and Scotland. That saw them avoid the wooden spoon and they'd love to be able to do that again in the 2025 Six Nations.

Scotland - Italy: Form Analysis
Scotland have won eight of their last nine internationals. The only loss they suffered in those matches was a home defeat by world champions South Africa. Notable wins have come against Australia and Fiji.
The three Six Nations matches they lost last year were by a combined points margin of only ten points. This year sees them play three of their five matches at home with Ireland and Wales also being hosted.
Scotland continue to be strong at Murrayfield.
They have won eight of their last ten home internationals and looking at those future fixtures, they will be expecting to win at least two of them. Against Italy, Scotland have won 28 of their 37 matches and 16 of the 18 played at home.
Italys last away win against Scotland was achieved ten years ago. They come into this match having lost two of their last three internationals. Those were both home losses inflicted by Argentina and New Zealand with 79 points conceded.
Their last win was a 20-17 home win over Georgia in which they trailed 17-6 at half-time. Last year's Six Nations saw them win one, draw one (at France) and lose their other games.

Scotland & Italy Squad Analysis
Dave Cherry will play for Scotland in this match against Italy. The Edinburgh hooker will be playing for Scotland for the first time since the 2023 Rugby World Cup. That also applies to Bordeaux lock Jonny Gray who will be earning his 78th cap for his country.
Scotland will be without their captain.
Gray has been included despite the fact he hasn't played for six weeks. A big blow for Scotland is the absence of their captain Sione Tuipulotu through injury. He's replaced by Stafford McDowall and they will be captained by Finn Russell and Rory Darge with Matt Fagerson at number eight.
Italy will be fielding the same back three that began last year's Six Nations. Lorenzo Cannone will be at number eight with Federico Ruzza and Dino Lamb playing in the second row. They will be hoping for more points from Tommaso Allan who is their top scorer in the Six Nations.
