A Welsh-Scottish rivalry will be on the cards when Scarlets host Edinburgh at the Parc y Scarlets in Friday’s Challenge Cup clash. A mixed Challenge Cup start has left Edinburgh in fourth place in Group 3 while Scarlets are rooted to the bottom. Edinburgh are on course for qualification to the knockout phases while the hosts are already out of contention. Scarlets posted a torrid start to the competition and have lost all their Challenge Cup matches this season. The losses have come against Castres Olympique, Black Lion and Clermont leaving them without a point. The Welsh side’s torrid form also extends to the United Rugby Championship where they have lost seven of their last nine games. 

Edinburgh will be out to seal a place in the knockout phases of the Challenge Cup with victory over already-eliminated Scarlets. A mixed start to the competition has seen Edinburgh win one clash and lose the other two. The losses have come against Clermont and Gloucester while the sole victory was registered against Castres Olympique. The latter two matches however delivered both winning and losing bonus points to boost their knockout chances. Edinburgh are having a commendable season in the United Rugby Championship where they sit fifth with six wins to their name. Their campaign has only witnessed three defeats and are on course to secure a quarter-final ticket in the competition. Edinburgh suffered a blow ahead of the clash with Robin Hislop, Wes Goosen and Mark Bennett set to miss through injury.
