Last season’s Challenge Cup semi-finalists, Scarlets will host debutants Black Lion in the competition on Friday. Both sides are smarting from opening Challenge Cup defeats which left Scarlets sixth in Group 3 while Lion are two places above. Scarlets kicked off their Challenge Cup journey with a 34-16 loss to Castres Olympique that sent them bottom of the group. The Welsh side has also posted a tough start to the United Rugby Championship that sees them in 13th with 11 points. Their inconsistent league campaign came to the fore in their last outing as they beat Cardiff to halt their three-game losing streak.

Lion were handed a tough welcome to the Challenge Cup, losing 10-15 to Gloucester but collected a losing bonus point. The Georgian side are giants in the Europe Super Cup winning the last two editions. An invitation earned them a maiden place in the Challenge Cup and they are out to fly the Georgian flag high. The fledgling side formed in 2021 is on fire having gone on an eight-game winning streak in their league. This hot streak has seen them book another place in the European Super Cup grand finale against Tel Aviv Heat.
