The 2022/23 European Rugby Champions Cup begins this weekend. Saracens host Edinburgh as they begin their bid to win the title for the fourth time. Their last success was in the 2018/19 season. This competition may have the word 'European' in its title but this season sees South African teams taking part for the first time. This is a Pool A match with 10 other teams taking part including Bordeaux, Exeter, Racing 92 and the South African side Bulls.
Saracens are in great form this season and top the English Premiership by 11 points having won all nine of their game. Their 100% record nearly ended in their most recent game as they had to come from behind to beat Northampton Saints. December has seen them strenghten their squad by signing the South African Francois Hougaard. They host Edinburgh who play in the United Rugby Championship and are currently sixth in the table, 20 points behind leaders Leinster with four wins and five defeats. Edinburgh will be without Scottish international Darcy Graham until February and that makes getting a result at Saracens even harder. Back Saracens to get the win here on a -11 handicap.
