Round 4 in the European Champions Cup will see Saracens play host to Lyon on Saturday evening. The hosts are currently in fifth place in Pool 1, while the visitors are second. Saracens' recent form has become a cause for concern, as they endured a third loss in their last four matches, facing a significant setback in a high-scoring defeat to Bordeaux Begles last week, where they conceded 55 points. The team is now under increased pressure as they approach their upcoming match. They were also beaten 19-10 by Leicester in their first match of the New Year. The positive, though, for the English Premiership powerhouse is that Lyon has already secured qualification for the knockout stages, potentially reducing their motivation for the upcoming trip across the Channel. Saracens boast a strong track record in this competition, having been crowned European champions three times in their history.
Lyon suffered a close defeat against Bristol Bears in Round One, but the two bonus points they secured at Ashton Gate were crucial for their qualification. Back-to-back bonus point victories at home against the Bulls and Connacht have given them momentum heading into this match. Lyon secured a victory against Connacht last week, making it two wins from three in Pool 1. However, they found it tough on the road, having not won an away match in 12 attempts. Similar to Bordeaux, Lyon has already secured qualification from Pool 1, but Saracens must secure a victory, at a minimum, to advance.
