Diana Shnaider will face unseeded Sara Errani in the third round of the US Open on Saturday. As they meet for the second time, here are stats on the match and our prediction.

Errani advanced to the third round at Flushing Meadows for the first time in nine years. The 2012 US Open semi-finalist will be hoping to have another deep run in the twilight years of her career.

In straight sets, Errani defeated Caroline Dolehide in the last round, to claim her 26th win of the season. The Italian arrived in New York on the back of a five-match losing run and quickly put that to a halt.

Advancing to the third round has bumped her 23 places up in the live ranking to 73rd place.

Shnaider has done well this season and it is no surprise she is having a superb debut at this major. The Russian, who has put up a 45-17 record thus far, has won both her matches here in straight sets.

She defeated Nadia Podoroska in the first round by the loss of just one game. In the second round, she faced a sterner test against Clara Tauson who claimed four games in the tie. Shnaider’s strong run in New York has moved her up to 16th in the live ranking, a new career high.

So far this season, the 20-year-old has claimed three tour titles, all on different surfaces. Shnaider defeated Errani on clay two seasons ago at the Montevideo Open.

From their second career meeting, the winner will play Jessica Pegula or Jessica Bouzas Maneiro next.
