Game three of the PBA Philippine Cup finals is set to tip off on Friday with a crucial game three between the San Miguel Beermen and the defending champions TNT. The Beermen were able to bounce back with a win in game two to even the series up at a game a piece after losing game one in heartbreaking fashion to a buzzer beater as time expired. San Miguel got a huge boost from the role players which ultimately proved to be the difference in the win and head coach Leo Austria will be hoping for more of the same in this pivotal point in the best of seven series.

As we touched on earlier, San Miguel are almost unbeatable when allowed to play their game and they always look to get involved in a shootout. TNT simply can’t compete with the firepower at the Beermen’s disposal and will have to focus on holding the record 27-time champions to a sub 100 point total to give themselves the best shot at taking game three. TNT got excellent production in game two from one of their star players Pogoy who led the scoring for both teams with 28 points. However, the defending champions were let down by their leading scorer Mike Williams who managed only seven points on three for 10 shooting from the field. They’ll need him to get back to around his 21 points per game otherwise there is a strong chance that TNT will be staring down a 2-1 series deficit. On the other side, the Beermen must be feeling great after getting massive contributions from the likes of Vic Manuel and Marcio Lassiter who combined for a total of 39 points.

We’re going to back the San Miguel Beermen to take a 2-1 series lead and cover the -3.5 point spread as our bet for game three. TNT will have to do a better job of limiting the San Miguel roleplayers if they are to stand any chance at winning a second consecutive Philippine Cup. They did a decent job at containing the potent duo of Jaymar Perez and June Mar Fajardo in the last game but really have to take advantage of those kinds of games. It’s unlikely we see too many more and the two of them have shown what they are capable of against this TNT team, combining for 60 points in the regular season win between the two.
