49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has been excellent against Rams coach Sean McVay which of course is a concern for Rams backers. Shanahan has won six straight against his friend as well as winning both matchups last season when his team were the underdogs. The hosts will have to see an improvement from their quarterback position if they hope to keep up with the Rams offensive ability. Despite the Niners excellent defensive numbers and the Rams slow offensive start to the season, the defending champions still have a host of weapons available and it is only a matter of time until they click into gear.

Trent Williams is going to miss out for the 49ers and the left tackle’s absence is going to be a big miss for the home team. With how dangerous the Rams pass rush is, the Niners need all the help they can get and going into this matchup without arguably the best offensive lineman in football will severely limit what they are able to do on the offensive side of the ball. The 49ers will have to establish their running game if they hope to open up some easy passing opportunities for Garoppolo but running against Aaron Donald and company is no easy task.

We’re going to back the Los Angeles Rams getting the +2.5 point spread as our bet for this one. This is an important divisional matchup even though it’s early in the season with both teams having some struggles to start the season. The 49ers desperately need a win to avoid slipping to a 1-3 hole while the Rams look like they might be suffering from a slight Super Bowl hangover after their title win last season. Trent Williams missing out for the 49ers is enough to swing this one in favor of the visitors as their elite defensive line should make things extremely difficult for an already struggling San Fran offense. It would be nice to get this line at +3 so perhaps waiting until right before kickoff to see if it moves is the best play, although it likely stays at the current line.
