Despite winning their first two matches, Scotland still aren't anywhere near guaranteeing themselves a place in the quarter finals. They beat Japan and USA but then suffered a convincing defeat to an improved South Africa who have already won this pool despite that loss to Japan. Scotland know that a win over Samoa will see them finish second and take on the winners of Pool A.  A loss won't eliminate them but if the next day Japan beat USA then that will. Scotland can have a fair degree of confidence going into this game after their earlier two wins. They have a decent record against their opponents and Samoa are not having a good tournament. After a narrow 25-16 win over USA they have been roundly beaten by South Africa and Japan. Scoring is their biggest problem with just 11 points in their last two games and only 36 points in all. They need to win this and then see Japan lose in order for them to avoid having to qualify for the next tournament. This looks like a Scotland win and that'll be enough to get them into the last eight and dash Japanese hopes.
