Samoa vs Chile Prediction & Betting Tips - Rugby World Cup
by Devesh Jaganath in Rugby World Cup Predictions
The first match of an action-packed Saturday in week two of the 2023 Rugby World Cup will see Samoa face off against Chile. The Samoans are third in the table, but this will be their first match of the competition, while the Chileans are currently bottom of Pool D. Samoa come into this competition as one of the dark horses. And, considering their recent form, it would not be a huge surprise to see them qualify from this Pool, which is one of the more favourable ones in the competition. In the lead-up to this tournament, Samoa beat Japan 24-22 and Tonga 34-9. They lost to the Flying Fijians 33-19, and put on an incredible performance against the world number one, Ireland, but came up just short 17-13 in a closely contested match. It is worth pointing out that Ireland and Japan are tier-one teams. It is also worth noting that Japan beat Chile in the first round of matches. As a result, Manu Samoa are the clear favourites to win this one.
Meanwhile, despite losing their opening match 42-12 to Japan, the Chileans were by no means disgraced. Their heart and determination were evident, and they even managed to take the lead in that match with a try from Rodrigo Fernandez inside the first ten minutes. However, with two players sent to the sin bin in the match, the Japanese steadily pulled away to victory. Chile conceded two narrow defeats in their warm-up campaign, losing 26-25 to Uruguay and 28-26 to Namibia. Currently 21st in the world, they are also the lowest-ranked team in the competition and the biggest outsiders to qualify for the knockout stages. In fact, there are several players in the side who have taken leave from their normal day jobs to compete for their country in this competition. While everyone loves a fairytale story, it seems unlikely to come in this match.
