Roman Safiullin caused a surprise on Sunday when beating the 15th seed Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets. In his second match of this Olympic tournament he faces Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Let's analyse the match and make our prediction.

Safiullin certainly upset the form book when beating Tabilo. The unseeded player (competing as a neutral athlete) is 66th in the live rankings but has been having some disappointing results this year.. That's illustrated by him being only 104th in the ATP Race.

The 26-year-old (27 on August 7) had lost seven of his last nine matches before beating Tabilo on Sunday. It's not been going well on clay for him either and that win was only his second in the last eight played. His best clay result was a semi-final on the Challenger Tour.

Will that win over Tabilo give him some confidence? He might need it as the winner of this match could well face second seed Carlos Alcaraz in the last 16. He does lead Etcheverry 1-0 in previous meetings but that match was played two years ago on a hard court.

Tomas Martin Etcheverry is representing Argentina and beat Thiago Seyboth Wild in the first round. He beat the Brazilian in straight sets but needed a tie-break in the first. The Argentinian is 36th in the live rankings and three places higher in the ATP Race.

He's had a busy time on clay this year and has reached one ATP Tour final, two semi-finals and three last eight defeats. His most recent tournament was on clay and he was beaten in the quarter-finals in Gstaad. We tip him to beat Safiullin.
