Roger Federer takes on Lorenzo Sonego in the fourth round of the men's singles at Wimbledon. He first won this title in 2003 and only once since then has he failed to make it into the last eight. He's played just four tournaments before Wimbledon and is yet to get to the last eight stage this year. Winning Wimbledon is the main target for the Swiss legend who turns 40 next month. He struggled in his first round match against Adrian Mannarino, coming back from two sets to one down to level the scores and then his opponent retired. Better performances have come against Richard Gasquet and Cameron Norrie and now he takes on Sonego for only the second time in his career. The previous meeting was at Roland Garros in 2018 with Federer a straight sets winner.

Sonego is the 23rd seed and ranked 27th in the world. He's had a good year, though mainly in clay court tournaments in his homeland. The Italian won in Cagliari and lost to Novak Djokovic in the Rome Masters semi-final, taking a set off the world number one. Before this year, Sonego had never won a match at Wimbledon. He got to the final of the Eastbourne grass court tournament held last month and did win on grass in Turkey in 2019. Finally he got a win at Wimbledon beating Pedro Sousa in the first round. He's also beaten DE Galen and James Duckworth but this is a massive step up for him. Back Federer to combat his heavy serve and get the win here.
