Roberto Carballes Baena and Dusan Lajovic, both unseeded, will face off in the opening round of the Argentina Open. The winner will then play top seed Alexander Zverev for a place in the quarter-finals. Below is our prediction for this match.

Roberto Carballes Baena is back in Buenos Aires for his eighth appearance. The Spaniard has, however, not produced deep runs in this event, with a quarter-final finish in 2019, his best result.

Last year, he was eliminated in the first round. Carballes Baena, who is currently 50th in the live ranking, is having a shaky start to the year.

He has compiled a 5-4 record leading to a quarter-final finish in Auckland and a run to the third round in Melbourne.

Dusan Lajovic has also competed in Buenos Aires multiple times before. This is his ninth appearance. The Serb has made it to the quarter-finals in the last two seasons for a total of four such results.

Switching to his favoured surface to play on will have Lajovic confident of ending his slow start to the year. The 34-year-old has managed just two wins in six outings this season and is on a three-match losing run.

This subpar run has led to him dropping out of the ATP’s top 80 places.
