Roberto Bautista Agut is back in Melbourne for the 14th consecutive time. The Spaniard has won his opening-round ties here nine times in his 14 appearances, and holds a quarter-final finish in 2019 as his best performance. 

Bautista Agut began his 2025 campaign with a 2-0 loss to compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in Adelaide. Despite this, he has moved up to 50th in the live ranking.

Denis Shapovalov is also a former Melbourne quarter-finalist. He achieved this feat in 2022. The Canadian has won his tournament opener here in five of his seven appearances. 

He will be confident of adding to this record as he has dominated this matchup with Bautista Agut. Shapovalov, who has compiled a dismal 1-2 record, has won all three meetings with his next opponent.
