The NLEX Road Warriors and Barangay Ginebra face off in this PBA Governors’ Cup matchup as the playoffs grow ever closer. Seeding is crucial as the top four teams only have to win once in the first round as opposed to the 5th-8th seeded teams who will have to win two consecutive games to advance to the semifinals. NLEX is having a fantastic year and sitting in second place with a 7-3 record. This will be the Road Warriors final game of the season and they will look to cement their top four position as a few teams below them still have two games left to play. They’ve been on a hot streak as of late, winning three in a row with their last game a 109-100 overtime victory. Their opponents meanwhile, are battling for their own top four position as Ginebra currently sit sixth with a 5-4 record. The Gin Kings bounced back well after losing four straight games and have now won their last two on the bounce with their last win finishing 112-107 against Terrafirma.

Both teams should be in high spirits after each, remarkably, erased a 22-point deficit in their previous games to claim dramatic, late victories. The key storyline to watch is that this will be star NLEX import KJ McDaniel’s last game for the team. Set to leave so he can attend his wife who is due to give birth, NLEX were aware of McDaniel’s situation before the season started but the delay in the season due to COVID will result in the former NBA player missing the playoffs. This is a major blow for the Road Warriors as McDaniels has been hands down their best player and one of the PBA’s most effective 2-way players. The 6 foot 6 forward is averaging 30.8 points per game and 11.6 rebounds while chipping in 2.8 blocks and 1.5 steals. With both teams having plenty on the line, this should be an entertaining matchup.
