Unseeded players Richard Gasquet and Jan-Lennard Struff will battle for a semi final slot at the Stuttgart Open on Friday. To advance to this round, Gasquet defeated top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets. This should build up his confidence more, going up against Struff whom he has defeated in their two encounters to date. Gasquet is making his fourth appearance in Stuttgart. His best-ever finish here came in 2008 when he reached the final. That was also the last time he took part in the competition. The Frenchman has posted 15 wins and as many losses so far this season but has one title win. He is currently ranked 52nd in the live ranking.

Struff is currently ranked 21st in the live ranking, a new career high for him. He has been in superb form in Stuttgart and has won both his matches without dropping a set. Struff defeated Zhang Zhizhen by the loss of five games in the first round. His second-round tie with Tommy Paul was however not as straightforward; he was forced to seven games in each set. Struff is making his 10th appearance in Stuttgart and is through to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2019. The German is having a terrific campaign and has won 38 of the 53 matches he has played. His highlight of the campaign was his rise to the final in Madrid as a lucky loser. A clash with either fourth seed Hubert Hurkacz or the unseeded Christopher O’Connell is next for the winner here.
