Marco Cecchinato is the second seed for the Challenger Tour event in Santiago, Chile. He takes on unseeded Ricardo Bonadio in an all-Italian first round clash. Cecchinato is 91st in the live ATP Tour rankings but four years ago was in 16th position. That high ranking was achieved mainly because of his run to the semi finals of the French Open in 2018. That's the only Grand Slam event in which the clay court specialist has made it past the first round and he's been playing them since 2012. He has slipped down the rankings but has made it back into the top 100 for the first time since October of last year. His best performances this year have both been on this surface. He reached the last 16 in the Cordoba clay court event held last month. Last week he got to the same stage in the ATP Chile Open in Santiago. He beat Facundo Bagnis before losing a lead against Thiago Monteiro before losing in three sets.

Ricardo Bonadio is 182nd in the live rankings and that's 11 places below the career high he achieved in January of this year. The Italian also reached the last 16 of the Chile Open last week, being beaten in straight sets by Laslo Djere. He's mainly played on the Challenger Tour this year and got to the last four in Tenerife last month. He didn't beat a player ranked above 140th and lost in the last four to fellow Italian Matteo Gigante (ranked 232nd at the time) after winning the first set. Go for Cecchinato to get the win.
