Iceland face South Korea in their final match in Group D of the 2023 Men's World Handball Championships. The Icelandic side are in third place in this group after two games with two points. South Korea have lost both their matches and need to win this to go into the main round rather than the President's Cup. Iceland began this group with a good 30-26 win over Portugal but were then beaten 30-28 by Hungary. That was a disappointing loss considering the fact they led 17-12 at half time. Avoiding defeat against South Korea will take them into the main round. If they do qualify, they'll take the two points earned against Portugal with them. Not since 2009 have they failed to get to the main round and with six wins in their last eight matches, they're in the form to win this match.

South Korea are yet to earn a point in this group. Both of their games against Slovenia and France have ended in defeats by an eight-goal margin. A win over Iceland will take them into the main round but without any points to carry forward due to the fact they'd send iceland into the President's Cup. South Korea have found themselves finishing bottom of their preliminary round group in their last four times in the world championships. They have only won two of their last 14 preliminary round games and look destined to lose this and end up back in the President's Cup.
