Fourth seed Jasmine Paolini faces unseeded Renata Zarazua in the Australian Open second round. The Italian reached the fourth round of this outdoor hard court tournament last year after seven previous defeats. Read our match prediction below.

The world number four was incredibly consistent in Grand Slam events last year. The fourth round was also reached at the US Open, Paolini was the losing finalist at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

The 29-year-old won two of her three matches in this year's United Cup team tournament  So far in this Grand Slam, Paolini has beaten qualifier Wei Sijia for the loss of just four games, all in set one.

Renata Zarazua is the world number 70 but up to 63rd in the live list. That's still below the career-high 51st achieved last November. The Mexican is in the second round of this tournament for the first time. Never has she made it to the third round of a Grand Slam.

In the lead up to this tournament, the 27-year-old reached the last 32 in Adelaide and the second round of the Hobart International. Round one in Melbourne saw her beat Taylor Townsend. The first set was lost on a tie-break but Zarazua only dropped three games in the next two.
