Second seed Karolina Muchova and qualifier Rebecca Sramkova will on Thursday face off in the Poland Open second round. The winner will advance to take on unseeded Tatjana Maria in the quarterfinals. Rebecca Sramkova defeated Karolina Muchova at the French Open five seasons ago, their only encounter to date. She will hope for the same outcome to prolong her debut in Warsaw. Three of Sramkova’s five victories on hard courts this season have come in Warsaw. She has won two without dropping a set with the last coming against Weronika Ewald in the opening set. Sramkova has alternated between the tour and ITF circuits but has played more regularly in the latter. She has won 33 of the 49 matches she has played and has two ITF titles thus far. The Slovak is currently ranked 164th in the live ranking, a 10-place leap following her first-round win.

Karolina Muchova had to come from behind to defeat Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the opening round. The match lasted for slightly over two hours and 30 minutes and saw the second set require a tiebreaker. It was her first match since losing in the first round at Wimbledon three weeks ago. Muchova is having a superb campaign even though she hasn’t won a title yet. The Czech number four has won 26 of the 34 matches she has played with 16 of her victories coming on hard court. Muchova, who is now up to 17th in the live ranking, is also making her debut in Warsaw. Despite her dominance on hard court, Muchova’s highlight of the season came on clay at the French Open. She made it all the way to the final to record the first major final of her career.
