Spanish rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona will face off this week when the former hosts their matchday 27 EuroLeague tie. Barcelona have fared a bit better than their perennial rivals and sit in ninth place, one win above 11th placed Madrid. Read on for our prediction of this match.
Real Madrid are in a slump. Chus Matteo's men, who have struggled throughout this season in Europe, have lost their last three games in the competition.
The record European champions will, however, be pleased to be returning home where they have been at their best this season. Ending a run of three successive away fixtures, Madrid were outgunned 78-67 away to Fenerbahce.
Since then, they have won three of four domestic ties. Los Blancos haven’t lost to their El Classico rivals this season across all competitions. They won the reverse match in Europe 97-90.
Barcelona also lost the last time they were in action in Europe. Joan Penarroya’s men fell narrowly at home 90-88 to league-leading Olympiacos.
That was the third loss in their last four outings in Europe, leaving them with a 14-12 record. Barca, who have won just one more game than Real, have lost seven of 13 away games.
Juan Nunez will miss this game as he is dealing with a knee issue.
