A matchup between two resurgent teams in the PBA Governors’ Cup sees Rain or Shine taking on Magnolia Hotshots at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig. Rain of Shine are on a positive bounce lately after picking up a buzzer-beating 120-118 win over Terrafirma thanks to late-game heroics by Santi Santillan. The result makes it two victories in a row for ROS after an awful start to the season which saw them lose their first four games. Rain or Shine can take a big step towards securing themselves a playoff spot in the top eight positions with another victory here. They currently hold the eighth spot with their 2-4 record although they have only played six games as compared to many of the teams below them that have played seven.

On the other side are the Magnolia Hotshots who are looking to extend their winning streak to four games. Magnolia suffered a difficult start to their Governors’ Cup campaign, losing their first three contests of the season. While the 0-3 start wasn’t pretty, two of the games they played were against the current top teams in the division and the favorites for the Governors’ Cup trophy in San Miguel and TNT, which they had to play back-to-back. They’ve been able to turn things around since then, with a 119-103 win over NLEX their latest success. A big reason for their recent surge has been the acquisition of import player Antonio Hester, who has been red hot in his first three games with the Hotshots. Hester is averaging 31 points, 15 rebounds and 6.7 assists with his new club.
