Nadal, Rafael vs DEL Potro, Juan Martin Prediction & Betting Tips - US Open, New York, USA
by Steve Ashfield | in ATP US Open Predictions
Rafael Nadal continues his bid to become the first player to retain the US Open Men's Singles title since Roger Federer achieved that feat in 2008. He's ranked number one in the world and is looking to repeat last year when he won both the French and US Open titles. He's dropped four sets on his way to this semi-final against Juan Martin del Potro and was in big trouble in the quarter final when losing the first set to Dominic Thiem without winning a game and eventually won in five sets. Nadal has a good record against del Potro in Grand Slam tournaments winning the last three including Wimbledon this year and that win in this tournament in 2017. You have to go back to 2009 for the last win for del Potro and that was in the US Open.
del Potro has only lost one set in this tournament, a tie-break to John Isner in the last eight and lots of players have lost tie-breaks to that big server. He won this tournament in 2009 and this is his second successive semi-final here, losing to Nadal of course. This year has seen him relatively injury-free and he's reached the semi-final in Paris and the last eight at Wimbledon. If he was to win this match it'd be only his second Grand Slam final and he is a bit of a nearly man never quite managing to crack the domination of the top players. Nadal has won six of their last eight meetings and he can take this one too.
