Rafa Nadal bids to win a record 21st Grand Slam title. The sixth seed takes on Daniil Medvedev (seeded second) in the final of the Australian Open. A win for Medvedev will see him become the new world number one next month. Nadal has won all of his matches this year but Medvedev is the highest ranked opponent he's faced. The Spaniard may have won 20 Grand Slam titles (equal with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic) but only one of them has been won in Australia. That was back in 2009 and he's lost four finals here since then. Nadal has had two four-set matches and a five-setter on his way to this final. He's won three out of four previous matches against Medvedev but the Russian did win the last one in 2020.

A win for Daniil Medvedev will see him winning his second successive Grand Slam title. Aside from Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, no player has won two in a row since Andre Agassi 22 years ago. History could repeat itself as Agassi won the US Open and then won in Australia. Medvedev has had nine wins in a row and been victorious in his last 13 Grand Slam matches. He was match point down to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter final but fought back to win that in five sets. Then he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-final and now bids to beat Nadal. Back him to win this final, it may take four or five sets to do so and a bet on a tie-break is a possible winner too.
