Quentin Halys vs Dominic Thiem Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Estoril Open
by Devesh Jaganath in Tennis Predictions
The quarter-final of the Estoril Open is set to get underway this week, and in our featured match, we will see Quentin Halys lock horns with Dominic Thiem for the first time in his career on Friday evening, with both players looking to book their spot in their first clay-court semi-final of the year. Ranked 80th in the world, Halys has been impressive in recent months, reaching the semi-final at the Phoenix Challenger event last month and following up with another great run in the Miami Open before coming up against an in-form Daniil Medvedev, who knocked him out in the round of 16. Here in Estoril, though, Halys has already overcome Nuno Borges (6-3 6-4) and then put on an excellent display against the higher-ranked Roberto Agut in the last match, winning in straight sets (7-6 7-5). Halys looks in a very good rhythm in recent weeks and will be fairly confident that he can overcome an opponent that has tumbled down the world rankings in the last couple of years.
Dominic Thiem has fallen from the top 10 player rankings in the world in 2020 to 111th this year. The Austrian is a big fan of the clay court and has already participated in as many as three tournaments on clay in Buenos Aires, Rio, and Santiago; however, he was unable to progress beyond the second round in any of those competitions. Following a further two first-round exits at Indian Wells and the Miami Masters, Thiem overcome Sebastian Ofner (3-6 6-3 6-4) in the tournament opener here in Estoril and followed up with arguably his best performance of the year in the last round against Ben Shelton, beating the American in straight sets (6-2 6-2). Thiem now sets his sights on an improving Halys but will have to be at his absolute best to stand a chance in this one.

Our Quentin Halys vs Dominic Thiem Prediction
Despite holding the better record this year, Halys is the underdog coming into this match, which could mean that there is some value to be had for his backers. The Frenchman has clicked into gear since the start of March, and only the very best players in the world have been able to overcome him. Thiem has not looked like the same player since his injury at the Australian Open and has suffered four first-round defeats since then. While the Austrian has shown improvement here in Estoril, we fancy Halys to edge this one. Our Quentin Halys v Dominic Thiem prediction is a win for Halys.
