Third seed Andrey Rublev will begin his Dubai Tennis Championship with a first-round duel against the qualifier Quentin Halys. This is their second career meeting and the winner will play Roberto Bautista Agut for a place in the quarter-finals. Below is our prediction for this match.

Quentin Halys won both of his qualifiers without dropping a set. The Frenchman defeated Yasutaka Uchiyama in the first qualifier and then Pavel Kotov to advance to the main draw.

He has now won five of 10 fixtures this season to improve to 73rd in the live ranking. Halys has never won a main draw tie in Dubai, getting eliminated in the first round in both his previous appearances.

Andrey Rublev is a former Dubai champion and as he is arriving after winning the Qatar Open, he will be confident of another title. The Russian was in great form in Doha where he was crowned champion for a second time.

Claiming five wins on his way to the title, Rublev improved to a 9-4 record to offset his early season struggles. The world number nine won the Dubai title in 2022 and in his last four appearances, has made it to at least the semi-finals.

Rublev defeated Halys in straight sets in Shanghai two seasons ago in their only encounter to date.
