Qinwen Zheng vs Xinyu Wang Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Wuhan Open

Fifth seed Qinwen Zheng will take on compatriot Wang Xinyu in the semi-finals of the 2024 Wuhan Open. The Saturday clash will be their first career meeting and we have a prediction of this match.

Zheng has progressed to her second successive semi. The Chinese number one, who suffered a disappointing last-four exit in Beijing, will be eager to not suffer the same fate here.

She has won three of four semis this season and claimed two titles, one being the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. Zheng, who has compiled a 43-15 record, battled through three sets to defeat Jasmine Paolini in the quarter-finals.

That was her third three-set victory. A win here will see the world number seven progress to her first WTA 1000 final. If she goes on to win, she will inch closer to confirming a spot in the season-end WTA Finals.

Xinyu Wang has been at this stage of a tour-level tournament before. She has, however, never progressed to a final and will hope this is finally the time she does. The 23-year-old has lost in the last-four stage four times.

Her most recent defeat in this round was in Hua Hin earlier in the year. To progress to this round, the Chinese number two battled from a set down to defeat Ekaterina Alexandrova.

The win followed a straight-sets victory over second seed Jessica Pegula. Defeating Pegula shows Xinyu will not be a pushover here and may cause an upset.

Claiming the 31st win of her season has moved Xinyu up 12 places in the live ranking and into 39th. The winner will play Aryna Sabalenka or Cori Gauff in the championship match
