Elena Rybakina is the 17th seed and is attempting to get to the fourth round at Wimbledon for the second year in a row. Last year saw her lose to Aryna Sabalenka in three sets. Only once has she got to a Grand Slam quarter final, that was in the French Open last year. The world number 23 began this year reaching a final in Adelaide. Not a great deal more has been achieved since then with two grass court tournaments seeing her fail to get past the last 16. Better form has been shown at Wimbledon though with wins over Coco Vanderweghe and Bianca Andresscu, both in straight sets.

This time last year, Qinwen Zheng was ranked 194th. 2022 began with her in 126th but the Chinese player is now up to 52nd in the world. She’ll be on the list of players who just wish there were world ranking points available in this tournament. Her climb up the rankings has mainly been because of her clay court form. A tournament was won in June and she got to the last 16 at Roland Garros. The 19-year-old looks a bright prospect but lost in the last 64 at Eastbourne and to Alycia Parks in Berlin, who was ranked 169th at the time. This is her first time at Wimbledon and wins have come against Sloane Stephens and Greet Minnen, both in straight sets. This is a lot tougher and the tip is for Rybakina to win.
