Eighth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova faces third-seeded Qinwen Zheng in the clay court Charleston Open quarter-finals. The winner will be up against either the top seeded Jessica Pegula or seventh-seed Danielle Collins in the last four. Here’s our match prediction.

Alexandrova was ranked 26th in the latest rankings, 11 places below her career-high. The Russian has had a successful year so far with a title won in Linz and semi-final reached in Dubai.

Those successes were on hard courts though. Now she turns to clay and last year had an appalling time on this surface. Just one out of eight matches was won but she’s already beaten that tally in 2025.

Wins in Charleston have come against Ann Li and sixth-seeded Diane Shnaider with just six games lost and is now 24th in the live rankings.

Qinwen Zheng is the world number eight but has never beaten her opponent. Two previous meetings produced three-set wins for Alexandrova and both were played on clay. The Chinese player is in her third successive quarter-final, the other two coming on hard courts.

This week in Charleston, the 22-year-old has beaten Maria Sakkari and 13th seed Elise Mertens, needing a final set to beat the Belgian. We go for over 19.5 games to be played in this quarter-final.
