Qinwen Zheng - Aryna Sabalenka: Form Analysis
Qinwen Zheng is preparing to play in her first-ever Grand Slam final. The Chinese number one is having the tournament of her life. Before this season she had never advanced past the second round in Melbourne. This is her third appearance here. Zheng’s best-ever finish at a major was achieved last season as she exited the US Open in the quarterfinals stage. Surprisingly though it was Sabalenka who got the better of her on that day. She will therefore be out for revenge. Zheng has had the luck of the draw in Melbourne and is only now facing off with a seeded player. None of the players she has battled ranks in the WTA top 50. The highest-ranked player was the world number 54 Katie Boulter whom she defeated in the second round in straight sets. Three of her six wins in the competition have come via straight sets with the latest being in the semifinals. The 21-year-old’s remarkable rise in Melbourne has propelled her into the WTA top 10 for the first time in her career. She is now ranked seventh in the live ranking.
Aryna Sabalenka is now just one win away from defending the title she won here last season. She has been in stunning form in her run to yet another final and the odds are well in her favour. The Belarussian has won every single round here without dropping a set. She did so last season and only lost her first set in the final. Despite her dominance, Sabalenka has had a tough run to the final as compared to Zheng. She has already squared off with three seeded players and Zheng will be her fourth. Two of her opponents were seeded in the top 10. The 25-year-old overcame her struggles against the fourth seed Cori Gauff who had defeated her at the US Open final last year. Gauff had won four of six meetings before their semifinal showdown. Sabalenka has won 10 of the 11 matches she has so far contested in 2024. Before arriving in Melbourne, she finished as runner-up in Brisbane. The current world number two has won 13 tour titles in her career and is now playing in her third Grand Slam final.

Our prediction for Qinwen Zheng v Aryna Sabalenka is for Sabalenka to win in straight sets. Sabalenka has been in absolutely stunning form in the defence of her Australian Open title. Sabalenka is also more experienced at tour finals than Zheng and defeated her the only other time they squared off.
Qinwen Zheng vs Aryna Sabalenka - Other Interesting Predictions
Aryna Sabalenka to win the first set
For our second prediction, we pick Sabalenka to win the first set. We have Sabalenka winning the match 2-0 so it is pretty obvious if it goes to plan that she will win the opening set. The Belarussian is a strong starter in matches and very rarely comes from behind to win. Zheng on the other hand is inconsistent in this regard and already in Melbourne has twice lost the opening set.
