The Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans will clash in match 37 of the 2024 Indian Premier League on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are currently in ninth place in the league standings, while the visitors are eighth. This year’s IPL has been another slog for the Punjab Kings, who have not reached the playoffs since 2014 and look likely to miss out again unless they can string together a run on positive results. They are currently second-bottom, just two points above bottom-side RCB and four points behind the top four. Last time out, they suffered a nine-run loss to the Mumbai Indians, which extended their current losing streak to three matches, following defeats against the Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, one of the two wins PBKS managed in this competition came agaisnt this opponent by three wickets at the start of the month. The Kings’ major strength this year has been their bowling unit, with Kagiso Rabada (10), Sam Curran (10), Harshal Patel (10), and Arshdeep Singh (9) all ranked in the top ten wicket-takers. 

Meanwhile, having reached the playoffs in each season since entering the IPL competition, the Gujarat Titans are finding it difficult to find their best form this term. They are on six points after seven games, but with the table still being very compact, they are just two points behind the top four. Last time out, though, they were completely outplayed by the Delhi Capitals, bowled out for 89 runs in 17.3 overs. That took a major knock on their net run rate, which is now down to -1.303 - the worst of any side in this year’s competition. Shubman Gill has been the Titans' standout player so far this season, currently ranked sixth in the race for the orange cap with 263 runs in seven innings and a highest of 89*. Sai Sudharsan is not far behind, with 238 runs to date. The Titans won the last match between these sides by three wickets and are the favourites in this one.
