Pittsburgh Steelers vs New England Patriots Prediction & Betting Tips - NFL
by Joseph King | in NFL Predictions
Thursday Night Football in the NFL sees the 7-5 Pittsbugh Steelers playing host to the 2-10 New England Patriots. The Steelers will be looking to bolster their record as they hunt down one of the seven playoff berths available in the AFC. If the season were to end today, the Steelers would make the cut ahead of teams like the Texans, Bills and Broncos. Pittsburgh also have an outside shot of chasing down the division-leading Ravens. The Steelers are currently second in the AFC North, two games behind their bitter rivals Baltimore who have managed a record of 9-3 so far on the season. Pittsburgh come into this clash off the back of a hugely disappointing 24-10 home loss to the lowly Arizona Cardinals. Despite holding Kyler Murray to 145 passing yards, the Steelers were gashed for 160 rushing yards, 105 of which came from James Conner who also scored two touchdowns. The hosts also lost quarterback Kenny Pickett to a high-ankle sprain which is going to keep him out for a while.
The Patriots are coming off a game which saw them lose despite giving up only six points. Not only did New England lose the game, they also failed to cover the spread as they were shutout completely in a 6-0 defeat to the LA Chargers. What’s even more discouraging for New England is that they were shutout by a Chargers team that ranks 29th in total defense at 379.5 yards allowed per game and 28th in defensive DVOA. It was the second time this season that Bill Belichick's team have been kept off the scoreboard completely and is also the fifth time they have been held to single-digits. The Pats, who are now the lowest-scoring team in the NFL at 12.3 points per game, meet up with a Steelers team that have had their own struggles scoring the football. The result should be a classic ugly Thursday night game with very few points scored.
