Pittsburgh Penguins vs Vancouver Canucks Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL

The 20-15-4 Pittsburgh Penguins will welcome the 27-11-3 Vancouver Canucks into PPG Paints Arena in the early hours of Friday morning. They only sit in 7th place in the Metropolitan Division at present but there are very few points between them and those they are chasing but they need to get on a hot streak if they are to make a proper playoff push. Alternating wins and losses for their last five games has not been a help to them but a victory over their state rival Philadelphia Flyers last time should have put them in a good place mentally. The addition of Erik Karlsson has been a big plus to their blue line, which is well inside the top 10 defences this season in terms of goals conceded, though that will be tested by the Canucks. That is a massive step forward from where they have been in recent years and with Sidney Crosby having his finest goal-scoring season since 2009-10 season, the creaking bones of the oldest team in the NHL have been managing to secure just enough wins to keep themselves in contention to the halfway mark of the season.
This is game five of a seven-game road trip for the Canucks, losing the opener at the St Louis Blues but winning all three since against the New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers and New York Islanders. They look likely to start Thatcher Demko in net after the ex-Penguin Casey DeSmith played against the Islanders in their most recent game. Demko has 20 wins on the board this season and has recently gone past 100 in his career. A .916 save percentage is the best of his career but he is facing plenty of rubber, averaging 32 shots against over his last five starts which have seen him concede 16 goals. The Canucks have scored 26 in those five games themselves so there have been plenty of shots to hit the net at both ends of the ice even though the Canucks have the 5th fewest goals conceded in the league. That could be the case again here with the Pens enjoying some of the best-known forwards in the league.
