Second seeded Alex de Minaur faces wild card Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the second round of the Moselle Open. The winner of this match faces either eighth seed Stan Wawrinka or unseeded Luca Van Assche in the quarter finals. After the withdrawal of Holger Rune. de Minaur is the higehst remaining seed in this indoor hard court tournament. The Australian began this tournament ranked 12th and last week reached the quarter finals of the Paris Masters. That was the second last eight appearance for him in his last three tournaments but he won't be heading to Turin for the ATP Finals, not even as an alternate. He has had a good year though and has won one title this year with three other finals reached. He's 2-1 up in previous meetings with Herbert but this is their first match in four years. 

Pierre-Hugues Herbert was ranked 344th when the Moselle Open began. The 32-year-old has a career high of 36th but that was achieved four years ago. He has been as low as 502nd in the world this year but this run to the second round in Metz has taken him up to 316th and winning this match will take him back into the top 300. Most of his year has been spent on the Challenger Tour with a quarter final appearance in Bergamo last week. He was given a wild card to play in this event and beat Arthur Cazaux in straight sets in round one. This is far tougher and we go for de Minaur to win in straight sets.
