The Phoenix Suns host the Dallas Mavericks at the Footprint Center to kick off the season for both teams in this Western Conference semifinal rematch from last season’s playoffs. The Suns finished last season with the best record in the league but would ultimately be sent home by Dallas in seven games. On the other side, Dallas carried their momentum through the playoffs after defeating the Utah Jazz in the first round to overcome the Suns in a game seven blowout on their own court in Phoenix. Luka Doncic truly made the jump to superstardom during that run (if he wasn’t there already) and will be looking to take his Mavs squad one step further this year and make the finals for the first time since the Dirk Nowitski led, championship winning team of 2011.

We’re going to back the Mavericks to keep this game close and take them on the +4.5 point spread. The line has already been bet down from its opening at +5.5 and, while it would have been nice to have the extra point, it’s a market move which gives a lot of insight as to how the sharp money views this matchup. Doncic owned the Suns last season, spawning endless memes and trolls of Devin Booker and his teammates that the Phoenix players will still likely have fresh in their minds. The Mavericks have some uncertainties heading into the new season but with Doncic in their corner they must always be taken as a serious threat.
