The NBA Western Conference semifinals has become a best of three series after the Dallas Mavericks were able to protect their home court and tie the series up at 2-2 with back-to-back wins over the top-seeded Phoenix Suns. The series now heads back to the Footprint Center in Phoenix where the Suns will look to take a 3-2 lead and put themselves one win away from a return to the Western Conference finals. Standing in their way will be a rejuvenated Mavs team that finally was able to provide superstar Luka Doncic with the support he desperately needed. Dorian Finney-Smith went 8-12 from three in game four for 24 points while diminutive guard Jalen Brunson poured in 28 and 18 points in games three and four, respectively. They’ll have to keep up that same level of play if they hope to steal a game in Phoenix as the Suns have been dominant over the Mavericks at home in recent seasons. 

Home court advantage is huge in the NBA, even more so in the playoffs. The Suns will welcome the return back to Phoenix and should be able to get into a better rhythm in their familiar surroundings. All Star Devin Booker has been playing excellently for the hosts and has averaged 26.5 points per game in this series. The Suns can count on Booker’s consistent output and will expect an improved performance from their role players with the energy provided from their home fans. There’s a good chance we see bounce back games from the Suns’ two other stars, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton, who only combined for 19 points in the game four loss. The Suns are on a current seven game winning streak against the Mavericks when playing in Phoenix and we are likely to see that run continue here.
