A classic NL East rivalry in Major League Baseball sees the second-place Philadelphia Phillies hosting the fourth-place New York Mets on Sunday. The Phillies have a comfortable five game lead ahead for the top Wild Card spot as we near the end of the regular season. They won’t catch the Atlanta Braves, who they trail by 13.5 games, for the division crown but will make the playoffs for a second straight season. Philadelphia will be hoping to emulate their run from last year which saw them make it all the way to the World Series. They have the opportunity to put the finishing touches on a sweep over the Mets here after winning the first three games of this series. Philadelphia’s most recent outing was a 7-5 win over New York, their fourth consecutive victory and seventh from the last 10. Christopher Sanchez takes the mound for the home team and is 2-5 on the year with a 3.55 ERA.

It’s been a disappointing campaign for the Mets following their 101 win season last year. They’re currently 13 games below .500 and are on track to finish with their worst record since the 2017 season. They’ve suffered three consecutive defeats, all to the Phillies, while losing six of their last 10 overall. The Mets have really struggled to put together consistent wins on the road and now have an away record of just 32 wins and 48 losses on the year. Taking the mound for the Mets in this one is Jose Butto who is 1-2 on the year with an ERA of 3.09. Albeit a somewhat small sample, Butto has pitched very well for New York this season. The 25-year-old is coming off a strong performance which saw him go six innings, giving up just one earned run while striking out six.
