Philadelphia Phillies vs Houston Astros Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in Baseball Predictions
A crucial game 5 of the World Series sees the Philadelphia Phillies hosting the Houston Astros at Citizens Bank Park with the series all tied up at 2-2. Faced with the prospect of going down three games to one, the Astros needed a strong performance in game four in front of what has been an electric Phillies crowd all playoffs. Starter Christian Javier and the Astros bullpen responded by throwing only the second ever no-hitter in World Series history, evening up the series at two games a piece and swinging the momentum back in the favor of the AL side. With only one more game in front of their home crowd before the series heads back to Houston for games six and seven, the Phillies championship hopes likely rest on this game.

Philadelphia Phillies & Houston Astros Squad Analysis
Taking the mound for the Houston Astros is the hall-of-famer Justin Verlander who will be hopíng to get back to his regular season form which saw him post an 18-4 record with a 1.75 ERA. The knock on Verlander has been his inability to replicate his stellar regular season results in the postseason. His last start on October 28th saw the Phillies hit the 39-year-old for five earned runs in five innings pitched. On the other side, Noah Syndergaard gets the nod for the Phillies. Although named the starter, Syndergaard usually only goes a few innings before the Phllies turn to their bullpen. The 30-year-old was 10-10 in the regular season with a 3.94 ERA and only went one and a third innings in his last appearance against the Padres in the previous round of the playoffs.
Philadelphia Phillies - Houston Astros Key Points
- Syndergaard clearly isn’t the same pitcher that he was during his Mets days. His strikeout numbers were at a career low 34 in the regular season after regularly posting 150 to 200 during his days as a Mets starter.
- The Astros are 22-9 in the regular season and playoffs combined this year with Justin Verlander as the starting pitcher.
- The Astros were the second best team in baseball in limiting strikeouts in the regular season, posting only 1,179 strikeouts.

Our Philadelphia Phillies vs Houston Astros Prediction
We’re going to back the Houston Astros to get the win in this game and put themselves just one win away from the World Series crown with the series heading back to Houston. The no-hitter in game five was a real statement from this ‘Stros team. In their most important game of the season, the team showed real heart to respond in the way that they did. They also displayed what incredible depth they have in the bullpen with a masterful performance all around. If the Astros do go on to lift the title, the game five no-hitter will be looked upon as the clear turning point in the series.
