With All-Star weekend now behind us, the NBA continues with two east coast rivals locking horns as the Philadelphia 76ers host the New York Knicks. The Sixers have been on a steady downward track ever since losing Joel Embiid for potentially the rest of the season back in January. Recent news has come out that there is a chance that the reigning MVP is able to return in time for the postseason. This should help to invigorate the Philadelphia squad which currently sits fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 32 wins and 22 defeats. This has them a half game behind their opponents today, who they can leapfrog with a win. The 76ers entered into the All-Star break off the back of a 109-104 home defeat to the Miami Heat, a result which snapped a two-game winning streak. The hosts have been on a tough stretch of form with only three wins from their last 10 overall.

New York has seen the momentum from a previously red-hot run after acquiring OG Anunoby from the Raptors completely fizzle out recently. They’ve been plagued by injuries in the last few weeks which has caused the team to lose five of their last six including their last four in a row heading into the All-Star break. New York is currently fourth in the East with a slim half game lead over the Sixers. The Knicks’ 33-22 record has them trailing the third-place Bucks by 1.5 games while also holding a 2.5 game lead over the Pacers in sixth. Their most recent outing resulted in a 118-100 away loss to the Magic.
