Third seed Daria Kasatkina takes on unseeded Peyton Stearns for a place in the last 16 of the Brisbane International. The winner will take on either 13th seed Liudmila Samsonova or qualifier Polina Kudermetova next. Here's our match prediction.

Kasatkina is ranked ninth in the world and that's just one place below her career-high achieved in October 2022. The Russian won two tournaments in 2024  and lost in four other finals. Her most recent title win was in October when landing the hard court Ningbo Open.

Usually, Kasatkina plays in Adelaide and has reached the final there for the past two years. 

Peyton Stearns is the world number 47 and won one title in 2024 but that was in a clay court tournament. October saw her have to retire from a match in the China Open but the American has made a successful return in this tournament.

The first round saw her defeat Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets for the loss of only five games. Stearns trails Kasatkina 3-2 in previous meetings but won two of their three matches played in 2024, one on clay at Roland Garros. 

Kasatkina's one win over her in 2024 came in the Australian Open. We tip the seed to win this match.
