Tenth seed Daria Kasatkina will seek a fourth victory over the unseeded Peyton Stearns when they square off next at Roland Garros. The winner here will then play Victoria Azarenka or Mirra Andreeva for a place in the fourth round. Peyton Stearns is seeking her first victory over Kasatkina. As she is in red-hot form, she will be confident of getting the job done. The American, who arrived in Paris after winning the Morocco Open, is on a six-match winning run. Despite this rich vein of form, Stearns has dropped four places in the live ranking to 66th place after losing 65 ranking points. The 22-year-old had to dig deep to win her first-round tie with the qualifier Lucija Ciric Bagaric in three sets. A tiebreaker was played in each of the final two sets with the match lasting for two hours and 27 minutes. Stearns made her Roland Garros debut last year and was eliminated in the third round by Kasatkina.

Daria Kasatkina has never lost against Stearns and this should have her confident of prolonging her stay in Paris past this round. They first met at last year’s French Open campaign where Kasatkina produced a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory. Stearns put up a tougher account of herself in their most recent matchup which was earlier this year at the Australian Open. That match in the first round saw all three sets played. Kasatkina has qualified for at least the third round six times in her eight appearances here. She has made the second week of competition in the last two seasons, recording a semi-final run in 2022. The world number 13, who has compiled a 20-11 record, has won eight of the 11 matches she has played on clay. Kasatkina defeated Magdalena Frech by the loss of six games in the first round. So far this year, Kasatkina has made the final in Charleston, Adelaide and Abu Dhabi.
