Petra Martić vs Shelby Rogers Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA French Open

32nd seed Shelby Rogers faces a tough task in the Roland Garros first round. The American is up against Petra Martic and  if making it to round two, Rogers will take on either Sara Sorribes Tomo or Clara Burel. Rogers did reach the last eight at Roland Garros in 2016 but has lost in the first round on three occasions. The 30-year-old started this Grand Slam ranked 34th and that's four places below her career high ranking achieved last year. 2023 has been a mixed year for her on clay with three matches won but the same number lost. Two of her wins came in the Charleston tournament but both needed three sets to get the victory. Two of her three matches played on clay in Madrid and Rome were lost. Rogers trails Martic 2-1 in previous meetings but her one win diid come two years ago on clay.

Petra Martic began this Roland Garros tournament only four places behind Rogers in the rankings. However, in the Live WTA Race, the Croatian is nine places ahead of Rogers. Martic is also a former French Open quarter finalist reaching that stage four years ago. The last two years haven't gone so well with a couple of first round defeats. This year, Martic has won five of her eight matches played on clay. Her best form was shown in Madrid where the last eight was reached. Her run included beating former Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikoa before being beaten by Iga Swiatek. Her form looks better than that of Rogers and Martic can avoid a hat-trick of first round losses.
