The final of this year’s Estoril Open will be contested by second seed Hubert Hurkacz and unseeded Pedro Martinez. This is the fourth career meeting between the two but the first as a final. Pedro Martinez has advanced to only his third tour final. Coincidentally, all three have come on clay, a surface he favours. Martinez won the Chile Open two seasons ago which was his first tour triumph and the last time he was at this stage of the circuit. The Spaniard, who is in red-hot form at the moment, defeated defending champion Casper Ruud in the semifinals. He won in three sets to claim his ninth successive victory. Martinez had arrived in Estoril after winning the Girona Challenger. The 26-year-old, who has compiled an 18-6 record, has moved up a massive 17 places to 60th in the live ranking.

Hubert Hurkacz is more experienced than Martinez when it comes to tour finals. The Pole is set to play in his 10th final and will be seeking his eighth career title. This however is the two-time Masters 1000 champion’s first final on clay. If he triumph’s here, he will have won a title on the three major surfaces. To boost his confidence levels more is his dominance in this series with Martinez. Hurkacz has never lost to the Spaniard and has defeated him in the three times they have met. One of those wins came on the clay surfaces in Monte Carlo in 2022 while their last showdown was last season. Advancing to the final has moved Hurkacz up two places to eighth in the live ranking. The 27 year old has compiled an 18-8 record and is 3-0 on clay surfaces. He dropped his first set of the tournament in the three set victory over Cristian Garin in the semifinals.
