The ATP Golden Swing series continues with the Argentina Open where Spanish compatriots Pedro Martinez and Bernabe Miralles will face off in the first round on Monday. Miralles won the last meeting between these two 2-1 in Paris three months ago. However, the world number 76 comes into this match in torrid form having won just one of his six matches to start the season. He suffered early exits in Pune, Adelaide and Melbourne, losing his three matches without winning a single set. At the recently concluded Cordoba Open, he beat compatriot Roberto Baena 2-1 before exiting the tournament by the same margin in the second round to the wildcard Tomas Vera. The match against Baena broke history in Cordoba as it was the longest to be played at the tournament, taking three hours and 26 minutes. Miralles is making his debut in Buenos Aires and is currently ranked 73rd in the live ranking.

Just like Miralles, Pedro Martinez is also in poor form to start the year. The Spanish number eight has played five matches and has claimed just two wins. Martinez comes to Buenos Aires on a three-match losing streak. He fared a bit better than Miralles in Pune as he made the quarterfinals but since then he has lost in the first round in Melbourne and Cordoba. The world number 72 has played here twice before and in each edition, he progressed to the second round. Martinez and Miralles have faced each other 10 times in the past, with Martinez winning six times. This match will be played on an outdoor clay court with the winner proceeding to face fourth seed Diego Schwartzman in the second round.
