Pedro Cachin vs Sebastian Baez Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Estoril Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
We're guaranteed an Argentinian player in the last eight of the Estoril Open. Fifth seeded Sebastian Baez (and defending champion here) takes on unseeded Pedro Cachin in the second round of this outdoor clay court tournament. The winner of this match may face the top seed Casper Ruud in the quarter finals. Sebastian Baez began this tournament ranked 32nd in the world. He'll be wanting to at least maintain that position to ensure being seeded at the upcoming French Open. The Argentinian is only one place below his career high of 31st achieved last August. He'll have to win a couple more matches to equal or better that career high. The 22-year-old is heading in the right direction though after being as low as 47th in February. His first three matches of the new year were all lost but were all on hard courts. He's much better on clay and proved that when winning the Cordoba title, a quarter final in Rio and the last four in Santiago. He again struggled on hard courts in Indian Wells and Miami with his only win coming against a player ranked outside the top 100. He beat Radu Albot in straight sets in his first round match in Estoril.
Pedro Cachin started the Estoril Open ranked 67th but was as high as 54th last November. He also had a straight sets win in the first round beating Tseng Chun-hsin for the loss of eight games. That's taken him up to 63rd in the live rankings and beating Baez can see him rise as high as 58th. The 27-year-old also made a poor start to 2023 with four straight losses on hard courts. He then lost in the first round of the Cordoba clay court tournament that Baez won. Only one of his five matches in the South American clay court tournaments that he played in. A first hard court win of the year came in Indian Wells against Nikoloz Basilashivil (ranked 118th at the time) but he then lost to Alexander Zverev winning just four games. Miami didn't go well either with a first round loss to Marton Fucsovics. This is the first meeting between the pair and we go for Baez to get the win.
