Third seeded Lorenzo Musetti bids to reach the quarter finals of the Argentinian Open. He takes on unseeded Pedro Cachin with the winner up against either Dominic Thiem or qualifier Juan Pablo Varillas. This is a match in the bottom half of the draw where the only other remaining seed is second seeded Cameron Norrie. Musetti began this tournament ranked 20th and that's only two places below his career high ranking achieved last month. He can rise to 18th in the live rankings if beating Cachin but that's the highest he can get to this week. Musetti began the year playing for Italy in the United Cup and won four of his five matches. None of his wins came against players who were ranked in the top 165. His only loss was to Frances Tiafoe when he retired after losing the first set 6-2. In the Australian Open, the Italian lost in the first round to Lloyd Harris. He lost the first two sets, won the next couple and then lost the fifth on a tie-break. This is his first tournament since that Grand Slam and his first clay court event of the year. 2022 saw him win the Hamburg European Open on clay, beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

Pedro Cachin started this tournament ranked 68th. He's up to 57th after a straight sets win over Thiego Monteiro in the first round of this Argentinian Open. That was a very welcome win because before this week he had lost all five of his matches played this year. That made it eight losses in a row including the Vienna Open last October where he lost twice. He lost in the qualifying rounds, got reinstated as a lucky loser and was beaten in the first round. Cachin last won a main draw match on the ATP Tour in Naples four months ago. His five losses this year saw him win just one set. Last week he lost to Hugo Dellien (ranked 138th at the time) in Cordoba, his first clay court tournament of the year. Back Musetti to make it into the last eight.
