Paula Badosa vs Rebecca Marino Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA National Bank Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
World number 31 Paula Badosa is up against wild card Rebecca Marino in round two of the National Bank Open. The winner of this match will play either top seed Aryna Sabalenka, Dayana Yastremska or Sloane Stephens in the third round. Badosa beat Viktorija Gublis in the first round for the loss of only five games. That win took her to 30th in the live rankings and she will be confident of reaching the next round. It's been a successful year for the Spaniard who was down at 73rd earlier this year. Winning the Serbia Ladies Open in May certainly helped her ranking. She also got to the semi-finalsl in Charleston and Madrid beating Belinda Bencic *twice), Barbora Krejcikova and Ashleigh Barty. The last eight was reached at Roland Garros. Those results came on clay but Badosa has had success on other surfaces this year. Badosa made it to the last four in Lyon (hard court), the last 16 at Wimbledon (grass court) and beat Iga Swiatek at the Olympics before being beaten in the last eight, so missing out on a medal.
Rebecca Marino is Canadian so the organisers of this tournament in Toronto (where she was born) gave her a wild card. Marino began this tournament ranked 220th in the world but caused a surprise when beating 16th seed Madison Keys in straight sets. That victory has taken her into the top 200 and is 193rd in the live rankings. The 30-year-old has a career high ranking of 38th but that was 10 years ago. At one stage this year, Marino was 317th in the world but in February reached the second round of the Australian Open and the last 32 of the Phillip Island Trophy. That wasn't built on though until winning an ITF tournament last month. Only one of the players beaten was ranked in the top 600. Back Badosa to win this in straight sets.
