Spaniard Paula Badosa will be wanting a deep run in the Madrid Open. The ninth seed takes on unseeded Veronika Kudermetova in round two of this outdoor clay court tournament. Here's our match prediction.

Whoever wins this match will face either 24th seed Marta Kostyuk or unseeded Emma Raducanu in the third round. Badosa is currently ninth in the world rankings with a 12-7 record in 2025. The 27-year-old's best run this year was at the Australian Open where Badosa made it to the last four.

This is her first clay court tournament of the year. Four years ago, Badosa reached the semi-finals of this WTA 1000 event. The Spaniard has only won one clay court tournament in her career and that was four years ago.

Veronika Kudermetova climbed to 48th in the live rankings after beating her sister Polina in the first round for the loss of only four games. The 28-year-old has won 17 of her 28 matches played this year and four out of six on clay.

This is her third clay court tournament of the year but Kudermetova is yet to get past round two. Four of her six previous matches against Badosa have been won (2-1 on clay) but this is their first match since 2022.
