Second seeded Daniil Medvedev will be glad that this match is starting a bit later. He's been critical of the extreme temperatures in Tokyo even asking an umpire who'd be responsible if he died during his match. Hopefully it will be a bit cooler for him when he takes on sixth seeded Pablo Careno Busta in the last eight on Thursday. Luckily for Medvedev, he's only had to play one three set match so far this week. The first two rounds saw the Russian Olympic Committee representative beat Alexander Bublik and Sumit Nagal in straight sets. He had a tougher game in the last 16 though as he went to three sets to get past Fabio Fognini.

Pablo Carreno Busta is the world number 11 is fresh from winning a clay court tournament in Hamburg, though no top 40 ranked player was beaten that week. Before Wimbledon (where he lost in the first round), Busta made it to the semi-finals in Mallorca and faced Daniil Medvedev, winning the first set but losing the next two. That took the head-to-head between the two to 3-1 in favour of Medvedev with Busta's only win coming in 2018. This week has seen Busta beat Tennys Sandgren, Marin Cilic (after losing the first set) and Dominic Koepfer. Medvedev can be backed to win this match.
