Seventh seed Arthur Fils is set to meet wildcard Pablo Carreno-Busta at the Barcelona Open this Tuesday. The duo’s first meeting will be in the first round, and the winner will progress to face Pedro Martinez or Brandon Nakashima. Read on for our prediction below.

Carreno-Busta has spent a fair share of this season in the challenger circuit. He is coming from a three-set defeat to Kamil Majchrzak in the Madrid Challenger quarter-finals.

His best moments this season have come in challenger events, winning Tenerife 1 and 2. A finalist here in 2022, Carreno-Busta will seek to rediscover that form. He has lost three times in the first round at Barcelona.

Arthur Fils doesn’t command a glittering record at Barcelona. This is only his second season here, but in his first he reached the quarters. The Frenchman will hope to go past that stage and probably claim a first title of the season.

A 3-1 record on clay in 2025 should give him the foundation he needs against the former top-10 player. To better his record here, Fils will also have to beat the quarter-final barrier for 2025.

He hasn’t advanced past the quarters despite making it there four times on the tour. The most recent was at the Monte Carlo Masters, when he fell in three sets against eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz.
